Catching Up

Hello

To explain the pictures.

Joseph had his pinewood derby last month. His car that he and his dad spent a couple of weeks on was named Shock Wave. It won 4 out of 6 races. Joseph was delighted. I have never seen him much happier than that. He was in his 7th heaven. It meant so much to win those races. He did not win any trophies or anything but he was still having a great time. The name shock wave comes from some stickers that were on the car and that is what we were yelling as the car zoomed down the track. GO SHOCK WAVE!

The other pictures come from the blessing weekend. We had such a great time. Both sets of parents were here as you can see. The day before they all came in there was a large snow storm of course. But, the weather cleared and they were able to all make it in without a problem. We all enjoyed a great weekend. My parents always stay in a hotel and this was no exception. The kids had a great time slepping over at the hotel with them. They get to watch movies and have breakfast, always so fun fun there. My parents, kids, and I went out to Funtastic Fun. It is an indoor amusment park in Englewood. My mom took them there when she was here while I was sick. So we had to go back when they were here again. They had a great time. My mom had to spoil them by getting them little gift bags as well and getting them in there. Grandma's are great for spoiling!

We then went out to lunch and then my dad took the kids home and mom and I did some fun shopping. We went and shopped at Eddie Bauer where my friend Elizabeth works and she sold me some really cute clothes with my Mom's help of course. Thanks again Mom. It was a great afternoon.

The Nelson boys hung some new lighting in the front room and the dining room. It looks so much better! Then they built some new shelves in the garage, hall closet, and laundry room. I love the shelves, so nice. They kept really busy with the projects and my mother-in-law seemed content with holding the baby.

Sunday was the blessing and that went great. It is always nice to get that over with. But Mike did a great job and it was so nice to have everyone here. It is nice to have family come and visit when you do not see them very often. Katherine did great at the blessing, did not make a peep. She looked beautiful in her dress and blanket. So Cute.

Joseph has started spring baseball and is almost done with this season. He has a great coach who used to pitch for the Cubs and Cards. His son in on the team. Joseph's nickname that the coach has given him is Little Tiger. He gets a little frustrated about not getting hit but it is player pitch and half the time the ball does not make it across the plate. He has been walked several times. We spent a small fortune on supplies for him now he is moving up in the game. I do not want to tell you how long we spent in Sport's Authority picking out the perfect bat for him. Shall I just say we were all there for hours. It was intense selction process.

He is still enjoying playing the piano. He is great at it and is much better player than I ever was. He loves doing that. He and I went on a walking tour of LODO which is Lower Downtown Denver for a field trip at school. Mike took the day off and I went down there by myself on the light rail. It was weird to have so much quiet time to myself, I did not know what to do. I met up with the classes at Union Station. That is where the tour began. We walked LODO for several blocks and looked at several buildings. We all met up with the other classes at the end of the tour and had lunch at the plaza next to the main bus depot. It was watching 60 wild 3rd greaders running around like crazy people. It was loud. The whole group of us near 80 with the adults, all got on the free mall bus and took it back to Union Station. I am sure the bus driver loved us getting on. It was loud! It was like herding 60 cats. Crazy! I take my hat off to teachers that are willing to do that all the time. They do great with the kids.

The girls are doing great. They love their ballet class and look forward to doing it every week. They will start pre-school in August, we are looking forward to that. They will do twice a week from 9-12. That will be some quiet time for me.

Well, I guess that is about it for now.

Hope all is well.

Hello

About some of the pictures on the blog.

The girls went to a really cute pony party for the girl that Joseph takes piano lessons from. They had so much fun and came home dressed up like ponies. What a great idea, they even had tails and face painting. The woman that Joseph takes lessons from has two teenage daughts and they were helping out a lot. They had a great time.

Katherine is in a little tutu that Aunt Lizzie made for her to wear. It is still a little too big, but it is so cute! She is a future ballerina that is for sure. She is doing really well. She had her follow up cardiology appointment at Children's Hospital. I have not been to the new one. It is huge! It feels like a small city. It is so open and airy, very nice. While I was there, I could hear an African choir singing in the lobby, it was beautiful music, different then what I am used to, but pretty nonetheless. The appointment went well. She does have a heart murmur that is caused by a tigheting of her valve. It is called Pulmonary Stenosis. The doctor said it is nothing to worry about, they will follow up with her in 6 months and do another Eco-Cardio to look at it again. So, we will keep an eye on it. I am glad that the appointment is over and we know now. She is growing great, gained another two ounces in about a week. She is doing great and by far the cutest baby you have ever seen.

Joseph did not have school today and his three week off track has started a day early. He was scheduled to have an award assembly today to receive a pillar of character award, oh well I am sure they will give it to him later. I asked him what the award was for, he said I have no idea. Boys! They are so not detailed oriented! We will find out soon enough. He has started his baseball practices. We went and spent a small fortune at Sport's Authority buying new cleats, baseball bat/weight, and a protection cup. They have to wear one for player pitch I guess and have to have thier own bat that fits them. Considering the fact that his shoe size had grown about 2 sizes in about three months, he really needes new cleats. He is excited and seems to be on a great team. His coach used to pitch for the Cubs and Cards, so I think he has a lot of practice. His wife seems really nice as well. He already has a nick name from the coach which is Little Man. Perfect for him! He is a baseball player at heart and will do great this season I am sure.

Last night was the pinewood derby. Mike and Joseph worked on the car for well over a week. It was named Shock Wave! It is bright red and won 4 out of 6 races. Joseph was so pleased with the performance. But the real truth is that Mike was loving every moment of the whole process. He mentioned the performance of the car several times last night and then this morning as well. I am not sure who has more fun with the car, the father or son. But, it is so cute to see them working together on something they both love. I am blessed to have such a great husband and son. Both are great boys and I love them very much.

Mike is doing great in school and will be done in August, what will I do with myself? He will actually be here. What a concept?

I went to the doctor yesturday for the blood pressure, it is getting better, I still have to take the medicince once a day like I have been taking, that is still the same. It is still difficult to go back to the hospital, so many bad memories, but it is getting a little bit easier. I am still dealing and working with the feelings of trauma. That will still take a while, I think that is not something that you get over quickly.

I had a great time at my book club with the book club girls. It was my pick and I choose "These is my words." It is a great book, everyone seemed to enjoy it. It was a fun night out as usual. We met at the Olive Garden in Stapleton. I had a new dish, it was so yummy, a great choice. We all enjoyed yummy desserts as well.

The grandparents are all coming tomorrow hopefully with the weather. We are blessing the baby on Sunday, I am looking forward to it, it will be fun. I will let you know how it goes. It will be a fun, busy weekend. My father-in-law is a real handy man and will be doing several jobs around here. One of which is replacing our dining room and front room light fixtures. We bought them last week and I am anxious to see them up.

Will write soon about the blessing!

Sort of a free moment

Hello

I have a quick moment to get on the computer and write about the last few weeks in the Nelson family.

I had a little shower from some of my friends in my ward a couple of Saturdays ago. It was really fun, I had a great time. We all met at Paradise Cafe at Southlands and enjoyed a fun lunch. Thanks again to my visiting teacher for treating me to a great lunch of homemade tomato soup and grilled cheese. The meal was complete with a great cookie and even better company. I only invited 8 people so it was a small crowd. Everyone seemed to have a great time and in no hurry to leave. I got some great clothes (in the perfect sizes that I need). It was just really fun, relaxing afternoon for me and everyone who went. Thanks again for everyone for coming.

The other big event in the month was Joseph turned 9 a couple of days ago. Holy Cow! When did he get old enough to turn 9?! On Friday (the day of his birthday) he brought in cupcakes to share with his class. He passed them out during Friday free time which it seems he was allowed to wonder around the school handing them out. He says he gave them to his 1st, 2nd grade teachers. Then he gave one to the nurse and tried to give one to the gym teacher who he loves becuase that is his favorite subject, but they were having an assmbly so he could not go in there. Like I said, he walked the school. Oh well, that is why I send 30 with him, so he can share the love.

The next day was the party. I told him he can invite two friends to come along. He choose two boys from school and then we loaded up the van and went out to Chuck-E-Cheese. We were there with the other half of the city of Denver. The kids did not seem to notice though. We opened presents and then blew out candles. Then somehow Mike got off the hook by sitting in a corner with the baby while I chased around 5 kids handing out tokens and collecting tickets. They all had a great time.

We then went to Red Robin for dinner. The boys were a little silly while sitting and waiting for the food. But, we had a great waiter and were signaling to him to hurry up the order. The kids all calmed down when the food came and all ate it gone. There is something about that place that kids love, they have great food. I had a great mushroom/swiss burger, yummy! They sang to him and he got a hot fudge sundae in which the three boys devoured in about 3 seconds. Shoo!! Another crazy birthday under my belt, three more to go in the year.

Well, I have got to go feed three kids, more later.

About Time I did a post

Paula has returned after being away for quite some time.

It has been so long, I do not know where to begin, so I guess I will just get started then.

We all had a great Valentines day. The girls had their "Party" by "helping" me make cookies and then we all filled out Valentines cards for their friends and cousins. We passed out the cookies and Valentines to the girls friends and they loved it. It delighted them to get out of the car and then run up to the door and hand them out. Oh the simple pleasures of life. Joseph had a party at his class and I sent a ziploc bag full of cookies and he said they all were eaten. He seemed to have a great time. Mike got me my usual box of See's chocolates, the peanut clusters are the best. It is convient for him to go there as it is across the street from work. He said that the line was out the door when he got there and they were not quite opened yet. I am sure he was not the only man standing in that line the day before Valentines. We then had take out from Outback, that was my gift to him because he loves his steak. It was a great night, we had a great dinner and watched a great oldie but goodie movie "Back to the Future". We relived our glory days of the 80's and I rocked out to the great music in the movie. I suggest to everyone to watch it again if you have not for a while, it is a great movie.

I have been able to return back to my calling in Primary which has been nice. I have missed doing it. I feel though as if I never left. It is a great calling, I love it. It is the second time I have had it, which has been nice. Primary always keeps you jumping and on your toes, never a dull moment. We actually all went to church as a family on Sunday. Only for Sacrament meeting with the baby. Katherine did great, I sat most of the feeding her in the mother's room. It was grand central station in there. The other ward must have a lot of babies, there were five women who came in while I was feeding her. It was nice to hide out in there because Mike allowed the girls to go potty by themselves with Joseph and then upon their return to the chapel they went the wrong way and walked all the way to the front of the chapel before Mike caught up with them. I always said that those people who let thier kids wander around during the meeting are annoying and why are they not watching thier kids. But, then by Murphy's law I was that person. Oh well, at least I was not there. I told Mike the next time, just get up and take them, please.

I feel that life is finally returning back to normal for the Nelson family. My health has finally returned which is great. I feel that I can function again. I am still on medication for the b.p. but things are much better. I had my 6 week appointment which was actually a 4 week appointment which went great. I saw the doctor who delivered Katherine and the girls. He saw me two weeks ago as well. He has never seen me not pregnant. He was very complimentary at the two week but yesturday he was gushing. He told me that when I am not pregnant I am "gorgeous." I was not quite sure where to go from there about that comment so I just said thank you. What does one say to the person performing that type of exam anyway? Is he suggesting that I am ugly while pregnant? (just kidding) But it is nice to know that I do not have to go back there for a long time. I think what he and I are both releived that the process is over and that things have turned out so well. Just before the surgery back in January while standing in the OR he informed me that I could never have another baby because he is so close to retirement that he could not make it through another one with me, he was getting too old to deal with all my problems. I told him not to worry that he was taking care of that issue. He smiled and then went about his business getting the surgery started.

All About Christmas

Well, mom has taken the kids to do some bowling so I have a free moment to write about our fun Christmas.

We had a great time. Joseph was so excited that my mom said he woke up around 5:00 a.m. She heard him and got up and told him to go back to bed. He did, but I am not sure if he fell back to sleep. The adults all got up around 6:30 and then of course Joseph was up again. The girls were still sound asleep, but I woke them up it seemed unfair for Joseph to wait any longer to open up the presents.

We all had a great time enjoying the presents. The kids loved what Santa and Grandmas and Grandpas got them. I got Mike a new Sugar Bowl shirt for his Utes that are playing tomarrow. It was a surprise and he loved it. Eventhough I am a Cougar, I will have to say Go Utes!

The rest of the morning was spent putting together toys and watching the kids play with them. Mom then fixed a great meal. We had turkey with all the fixings. It was yummy. My brother and sister-in-law came over for the afternoon and part of the evening. It was fun to see them and spend time with them on Christmas. They have a son who is almost three and he just blended right in with the other kids. They loved playing down in the basement with the new toys, he seemed to have a great time. Their daughter is almost three months and it was fun to see and hold her. They named her Avery and she and Katherine will be really close in age which will be fun for them growing up. We all had a great time.

Our New Years was not quite as eventful. I was the lone hold out. Mom went to her room to read and then fell asleep around 9:30, Mike was out on the couch around the same time. I stayed up all the way to after 10:00 to watch the news for a bit. Oh, it was a party! Then we were woken up by our neighbors around you guessed it midnight setting up fireworks in thier back yard. All I rememeber hearing is someone saying "Set it off, Set it off." But after whatever it was set off, it was quiet again, no problem going back to sleep. So, that was our New Years. Quiet, but at least not at the hospital and I made it all the way through December without having a baby. That means I will not have 5 birthdays in that month just four. But, as my good friend Melissa pointed out, eventhough it is not in December, it will be close and all of our birthdays will be close together. Oh well, I guess we will get them all done at once. So, Happy New Year to everyone. This year will be eventful for us. This year we will celebrate the birth of a baby, Mike graduating from his MBA, our ten year wedding anniversary, ten year anniversary from graduating from college, ten years at Janus, and ten years living in Denver. Wow, that is a lot of things to think about. Needless to say, 1999 was an eventful year for us as will be 2009. Funny how life works out that way.

Love to you all!

Another Quiet Moment

On long, cold, lonly nights the pondering usually turns to your family and if you are a mother to your children. This experiance had shown me that we have great kids. I have always known that, but when you do not see them all the time and are not around them all the time it allows you to really appriciate them. They are truly a gift that has been given to me. I think that with Joseph's pregnancy I took it all for granted, it was quick and unexpected. The girls pregnancy was also quick and crazy. But I truly think I took it for granted. Where this whole experiance has taught me that this ability to be a mother is precious and sacred. I did a lot of praying that night, it was a fairly enlightenly night. I guess in some ways it was meant to be.

Another thing that happened during my first stay at the hospital that I guess was meant to be was meeting one of my day nurses. I really liked all of my nurses while I was there. But, this one was wonderful. She was a 67 year old French women who has lived here in Denver for over 30 years. She has been a Labor/Delivery/Parinatle nurse at Rose for about that long as well. She was wonderful, a really special lady. The first night the kids came to see me, she walked in and saw them and then had to excuse herself because she was so emotinal in seeing our family. She was overwhelmed by the spirit that she felt from our family. She said that we just gave off a glow that was special. She just fell in love with the kids and called them all by name each time she saw them. She is a life long Catholic and is very devout in her religion. I know she felt the spirit of a forever family. We decieded to give her the Joy to the World DVD and the family proclaimation and we talked a bit about families the many times she came in to take care of me. Then when I was admitted back, she was my nurse again and she came in and was so excited to see me and gave me a huge hug. It was really sweet. What a great woman. I look forward to seeing her again and showing her the baby. The Lord works in mysterious ways does he not? Who would have thought that would have happened? Well, I guess I did my missionary work for what the month, the year perhaps? It will be a memory that I will always cherish. I guess we all need to have the bitter to know the sweet. We must know the bad to know the good. We all have to walk to long road to Jericho and sometimes we may run into the thieves, but sometimes we may run into the really special people as well. But the only way to figure that out is to walk the road wheather we want to or not.

The next day I was able to go home, but not for long. I made it throught the weekend in bad health and very high unstable blood pressure. So, by Monday I was needing to go back. That process was really crazy made easier by Kevin and Kristie Chadwick who came and picked me and the kids up and then Kevin drove me down to the hospital and Kristie took the kids home until Mike was able to leave work and pick them up. They fed them dinner and took great care of them. This is just not the best time for Mike to take work off it is very busy for him with end of year reviews and a year end audit, so thanks again to the Chadwicks for all thier help that crazy day.

Then I had to go back to the same hospital room and then face the same experiance that I faced before. All the nurses were the same and welcomed me back as if I never left. I just fit right back in the routine. This time though the medicine had been changed and things seem to have calmed down a bit. I was able to leave after the 24 hour test and then have been home ever since. Thanks goodness for that. My restrictions are more than they were before. I cannot drive and have to limit walking and going up and down stairs. This is for real bed rest. But, at least it is not the hospital. At least I have not had a baby yet.

My mom is here for another week and then she leaves on Saturday. She has been here all this past week. It has been nice to have her here. Mike can go to work and not be nervous about me. He can get a lot done and plans to take some PTO time and then FMLA leave after his mom leaves. So, I think that we have a plan in place. This is a relief for all of us. I know that both moms will come now and then Mike and I will do the baby after she is born. The moms are helping now and then after the baby is born, I can start being able to take care of myself and the baby which will be nice.

This past Tuesday I went for an ultra-sound which I will be doing once a week along with a NST as well until the baby is born. They have maxed out the dose of meds that I can take, my OB informed me that I am taking enough blood pressure meds to kill a person. I guess that is supposed to tell me to take it easy. We have a plan in place with the delivery. The plan is that I will deliver sometime during the week of January 9-15. Unless something happens between now and then, that is the plan. Which I guess was always the plan. Two of the doctors have confirmed this as the plan so I feel really good about it happening. I will repeat the 24 hour test beginning tomarrow. I will know more after those results come in when I will deliver. But the test will be done here, don't worry. I had better go for now, next time I write, it will be about Christmas, we had a great time!
